Healthy Granola Recipe

This healthy granola recipe is the perfect breakfast or snack! It’s naturally sweetened with honey and bananas and full of nutrients.

I believe that it’s important to have some helathy snacks around the house.

Granola is one of the most versatile and nutritious breakfast foods out there. You can enjoy it by itself, or you can eat it with yogurt, milk or in a smoothie.

When was Granola invented?

In 1863, James Caleb Jackson invented a breakfast cereal that he called “granula.” Soon after, John Harvey Kellog made a “granula” mixture similar to the one that Jackson created.

Jackson sued Kellog for stealing his recipe, so Kellog changed the name of their formula to granola.

In the 1960s, granola was kind of forgotten but  a man named Layton Gentry helped it come back thanks to the new recipe he created. Shortly after, granola became a very popular breakfast in America.

Granola vs Muesli

Granola and Muesli are very similar but have some differences.

They are both usually made from oats, nuts, seeds and dried fruits.

Granola is usually mixed in with a sweetener before baking like honey, maple syrup or brown sugar.

Muesli instead is not backed and can be served either hot or cold.

Muesli was invented by a Swiss physician and nutritional pioneer named Maximilian Bircher-Benner.

Europe was first introduced to muesli  in 1959, and from then it became very popular in other countries too.

Nutrition benefits of Granola

Being full of nuts and seeds, granola is a calorie-dense food, so it gives you energy and keeps you full for a long for time.

Oats are a source of beta glucan, a type of fiber that can help reduce your cholesterol levels.

They are also very good for your digestive system and overall health.

Depending on the seeds and nuts you choose to put into your granola, your body will receive lots of vitamins and minerals like calcium, iron, potassium, sodium etc.
